This page explains how to delete your Songtake account and what happens to your data when you do so. We value your right to control your personal information.
IMPORTANT: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data, including your audio recordings, video recordings, and other content will be deleted and cannot be recovered.
How to Delete Your Songtake Account
You can delete your Songtake account at any time through the app. Please follow these steps:
1Access Account Settings
Open the Songtake app and navigate to the Profile tab. Then tap on "Settings" and select "Account".
2Find Account Management
Scroll down to the bottom of the Account page and tap on "Account Management".
3Delete Account
Tap on "Delete Account" and follow the prompts to confirm deletion.
You may be asked to enter your email address or authentication code to verify your identity.
4Confirm Deletion
Read the information about what happens when you delete your account, check the confirmation box, and tap "Delete My Account" to finalize the process.
What Happens When You Delete Your Account
Data Deletion Timeline
When you request account deletion, the following occurs:
- Immediate actions: Your account becomes inaccessible, and you will be logged out of all devices.
- 30-day grace period: Your data is marked for deletion but kept for 30 days in case you change your mind.
- After 30 days: All your personal data and content are permanently deleted from our active systems.
- Backup deletion: Your data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 90 days after deletion before being automatically purged.
Data That Will Be Deleted
When your account is deleted, the following data will be permanently removed:
- Your account information (email, profile, settings)
- Audio recordings and music compositions you've created
- Video recordings you've uploaded
- Project files and associated metadata
- Lyrics and notes
- Images, such as album artwork
- Storage allocation associated with your account
- Collaboration relationships and shared content
- App usage history and preferences
Data That May Be Retained
Even after account deletion, we may retain:
- Anonymized analytics data: Information that has been aggregated and no longer identifies you
- Transaction records: Required for financial and tax purposes (without personal identifiers)
- Legal compliance records: Information we're legally required to keep
- Shared content: If you've shared content with other users through collaboration features, that content may remain accessible to those users
Account Recovery During Grace Period
If you change your mind during the 30-day grace period, you can recover your account by:
- Sending an email to [email protected] from the email address associated with your account
- Including your account email address in the request
- Clearly stating that you want to recover your account
- Waiting for confirmation from our support team that your account has been reactivated
Important: Account recovery requests must be sent from the email address registered with your Songtake account. Recovery requests from other email addresses cannot be processed due to security reasons.
After the 30-day grace period expires, account recovery will not be possible under any circumstances.
Subscription Cancellation
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription. To avoid being charged, you should:
For iOS Users
Cancel your subscription through the Apple App Store before deleting your account:
- Open the App Store app
- Tap your profile icon
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find and select Songtake
- Tap Cancel Subscription
For Android Users
Cancel your subscription through the Google Play Store before deleting your account:
- Open the Google Play Store app
- Tap your profile icon
- Tap Payments & subscriptions
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find and select Songtake
- Tap Cancel subscription
Alternative Options
Temporary Deactivation
If you're unsure about permanent deletion, you can temporarily deactivate your account instead:
- Go to Account Settings > Account Management
- Select "Deactivate Account" instead of "Delete Account"
- Follow the prompts to confirm deactivation
When deactivated, your account and data will be preserved but inaccessible until you log in again.
Data Export
Before deleting your account, you might want to export your data:
- Go to Account Settings > Privacy
- Select "Export My Data"
- Choose what data you want to export
- Follow the instructions to download your data
Legal Requirements
Under various privacy regulations, including GDPR in Europe and CCPA in California, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. We comply with these regulations and will honor valid deletion requests as outlined in this policy.
Exceptions to Deletion
In rare cases, we may deny or delay a deletion request if:
- We have an ongoing legal obligation to retain the data
- The request is fraudulent or cannot be verified
- The data is subject to an ongoing legal proceeding
- The data is necessary to investigate violations of our Terms of Service
